This
artifact is a map page from the Chart Book that flew with Pete Conrad
on Gemini V. It was used by Astronaut Conrad during visual
acuity tests that he conducted during the mission.
The front side of this map is page 022 from the book and it shows the
Houston, Texas area. Affixed to the map is a cutout of a chart an
airport on Matagora Island.
The back side of the map is page 023 from the chart book. This
page shows the area around Veracruz, Mexico. Affixed to the map
is a chart of the Veracruz Aerodrome.
Both sides of the map page are displayed here.
On February 27th, 1994, Pete Conrad through Odyssey Auctions placed
this chart book up for sale in their Space, Sports and Historical
Autographs.
This was lot number 176 from that auction. The description in the
auction catalogue stated: "176.

charts used by Conrad on GT-5. Flown on the spacecraft."
The chart book was purchased by Mike Smithwick. After the
auction, Mr. Smithwick sold the page exhibited here to the Earth To The
Moon Air & Space Museum. Accompanying the page was a hand
written note by Mr. Smithwick which stated, "Flown Gemini 5 Map #022. This
map
was flown onboard the Gemini 5 spacecraft from August 21-28,
1965. It was used by Pete Conrad for visual acuity tests. The map
was purchased at auction from Odyssey Auctions, Feb. 27, 1994 as lot

was obtained for this map page. |
