This artifact is gold plated medallion that was flow on the Gemini 3 mission.

On the Front of the medallion is printed the names of the crew, Virgil I. Grissom and John W. Young.  It shows a Gemini spacecraft floating on the water named "The Molly Brown".

On the back of the medallion is the mission designation GT-3.  Along with that designation is the date of the mission March 23, 1965.

It was sold at auction by Superior Stamp & Coin in their Fall 1995 Space Memorabilia Auction on October 28, 1995.  This was lot number 346 in that auction.

The lot description in the auction catalog stated, "344. Flown Gold Crew Patch Medallion (25 mm). This gold placed, silver medallion is engraved on the reverse "March 23, 1965" and comes in its original plastic box (without foam) as issued.  This is the first flown medallion we have seen from Grissom's flight.  This medallion was personally given to the consignor by Gus Grissom after the flight."

The Earth To The Moon Air & Space Museum obtained this artifact from the Superior Stamp & Coin auction.
