This betacloth cargo restraint flew on Apollo 8, the first mission to orbit another world. The restraint is 17.5 inches by 15.5 inches.  It has two metal snaps.  On the front is a label with the information "CARGO RESTRAINT, A8 LAUNCH/RETURN".  On the back side is a label with part and serial numbers "V56-786548-61, 06362, AAK2259".

This was purchased in an auction from James Fisher.   Mr. Fisher was in charge of gathering artifacts for the Mascoutah Aerospace Museum.  In recognition of his work he was presented with this artifact.

A letter of authenticity was provided by Mr. Fisher which states, "To Whom It May Concern,  This is to certify that the enclosed Flown Apollo 8 Large beta cloth Strap / Restraint was presented to me by the Mascoutah Aerospace Museum.  It was given in recognition of the work I have done gathering artifacts for the museum.  It was flown in space on the first circumnavigation of the moon, on the Apollo 8 mission.  The serial numbers on the back of the flow restraint strap are as follows: V56-786548-61, 06362, AAK2259. "

Also accompanying this artifact is a copy of a notarized letter  from the Mascoutah Aerospace Museum which states, "To Whom It May Concern:  Mr. Roger Bell and Mr. Jim Fisher are active staff agents for the Mascoutah Aerospace Museum located near Scott A.F.B, Illinois. Our facility is strictly not-for-profit and benefits the interests and motivations of young people seeking aerospace careers.  Mr. Bell and Mr. Fisher have museum rights to seek, collect, and advertise for potential artifacts which would augment the museum's collection.  Sincerely Jon Dennis Roy III, Curator"
.

The Earth To The Moon Air & Space Museum acquired this artifact from Mr. Fisher.
