This package of corn chowder was flown to the Moon on Apollo 17.

It has been autographed by Mission Commander Gene Cernan. Commander Cernan also noted on the food package that it had flown to the Moon.

This food was originally part of the Gene Cernan collection. It was put up for auction by Mr. Cernan through Novaspace Astro-Auction.

The auction description from this auction was as follows:
"SPACE FOOD. Gene grabbed all the leftover food after the Apollo 17 flight, and this 'spoon bowl' of corn chowder from Jack Schmitt's portion was some of it.  Serial number is still intact. White Velcro squares identify it as Schmitt's.

This is even more valuable than flown souvenirs as it is actual flight consumables.

Flown items from Apollo 17 are extremely scarce, as Senate hearings fro the Apollo 15 flown cover scandal took place only a few months before, and NASA put the kibosh on flown souvenirs, which reached a peak on Apollo 15. Patches, flags, Robbins medallions... anything substantial from Apollo 17 is almost never seen.  Even heat shield and thermal skin fragments are hard to come by and expensive.  Actual manifested flight supplies like this are very much in demand.

Here's your chance to own some of the last space food of its kind, flown to the moon on the final flight.  Available exclusively from Novaspace at Astro-Auction.

This item comes with a special full-size COA with a picture of this food, personally signed by Gene Cernan.  It doesn't get any better than that."

The Earth To The Moon Air and Space Museum acquired this artifact from Astro-Auction.
