Sunglasses
Flown To The Surface Of The Moon By Pete Conrad
|
Pete
Conrad Wearing Aviator Sunglasses During Training For Apollo 12
|
These sunglasses
and this betacloth case flew to the Moon and were used by Commander
Charles (Pete) Conrad, Jr. during the flight of Apollo 12.
To the best of our knowledge, there are no photoraphs available from
the Apollo 12 mission which show Astronaut Conrad wearing these
sunglasses. We did however locate a photograph which shows
Astronaut Conrad wearing a similar pair of aviator sunglasses during
training.
Astronaut Conrad consigned this artifact for sale to Odyssey
Auctions. These sunglasses and the betacloth case were auctioned
on November 22, 1992.
This artifact was lot number 95 in the auction catalog. The
description in the auction catalog stated, "95. Sunglasses used by Charles Conrad
aboard the Apollo XII Command Module, with original case."
A hand written certificate of authenticity written and signed by
Astronaut Conrad
accompanies this artifact.
It
was later confirmed in
writing by Astronaut Conrad's wife Nancy that
these sunglasses also accompanied Astronaut Conrad down to the surface
of the Moon in Lunar Module Intrepid.
The Earth To The Moon Air &
Space
Museum acquired this artifact from the Odyssey auction. |
