This Texas state
flag was flown to the Moon with the crew of Apollo 11.
The flag and certificate have been signed by Apollo 11 Command Module
Pilot Michael Collins. On the flag Collins inscribed "Carried to the Moon aboard
Apollo XI, Michael Collins".
This flag was in personal collection of MIchael Collins until it was
placed up for auction on April 24th, 2004. In the the
Aurora Galleries Space & Aviation Memorabilia Auction Auction this
flag was lot number 251.
The description in the auction catalog stated, '251. Flown "Texas" State Flag (6x4). This
red, white, and blue silk flag has been notated "Carried to the Moon
aboard Apollo XI, Michael Collins" at the top.
Also included is a
multicolor NASA certificate of authenticity (10x12") that reads: "This
flag traveled to the moon with Apollo 11, the first manned lunar
landing, July 20, 1969".
The certificate has been hand signed "Michael
Collins" below the multicolor Apollo 11 crew patch in the center.
