January 1: The European Union introduces the Euro currency.

January 5: The United States Senate opens the impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton.

January 29: The Denver Broncos defeat the Atlanta Falcons 34 to 19 in Super Bowl XXXIII.

February 12: The impeachment trial  of President Bill Clinton ends and he is acquitted by the United States Senate.

February 19: Nascar racing driver Jeff Gordon wins the 1999 Daytona 500.

February 22: Iraqi Shiite Cleric Mohammad Mohammad Sadeq al-Sadr is assassinated.

February 27: Colin Prescot and Andy Elson set a new endurance record for flight in a hot air balloon. Their record of 233 hours and 55 minutes came in an unsuccessful bid to circumnavigate the globe.

March 3: Bertrand Picard and Brian Jones began their attempt to circumnavigate the globe in a balloon.

March 20: The Serbs launch an offensive in Kosovo.

March 21: Bertrand Picard and Brian Jones become the first balloonists to successfully circumnavigate the globe.

March 21: The movie "Shakespeare in Love" wins the oscar for best picture at the Academy Awards.

March 24: Yugoslavia is attacked from the air by Nato.  It is the first time that Nato has attacked a sovereign nation.

April 10: A fly-in called the "Gathering of Mustangs" is held in Kissimmee, Florida. Astronaut Bill Anders is one of the pilots in attendence.  For my first hand acount of this even follow the Mustangs link.

April 20: Students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold kill 12 other students, a teacher, and themselves during their siege of Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado.

May 30: Racing driver Kenny Brack wins the 83rd running of the Indianapolis 500.

June 11: Actor Deforest Kelly who was best known for his role of Dr. McCoy on Star Trek passes away.

June 19: The Dallas Stars defeat the Buffalo Sabers in game six and win the Stanley Cup 4 games to 2.

June 25: The San Antonio Spurs defeat the New York Knicks in game 5 to claim the 1995 NBA Championship  4 games to 1.

July 16: John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife, and sister in law are killed when the airplane Kennedy is piloting crashes near Martha's Vineyard.

July 20: The Liberty Bell 7 space craft is recovered from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

July 20: The Lunar Prospector spacecraft is intentionally crashed into the Moon to end its exploration mission.

August 17: A magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Turkey kills more then 15,600 people and leaves 600,000 homeless.

October 27: The New York Yankees defeat the Atlanta Braves in game 4 to win the 1995 World Series 4 games to none.

October 31: Egypt Air flight 990 traveling from New York City to Cairo crashes off the coast of Massachusetts killing all 217 that were on-board.

November 18: The logs being stacked at Texas A&M University for their annual bonfire collapses killing 12 students and injuring 28.

November 20: The first Shenzhou spacecraft is launched by the People's Republic of China.

December 29: Former Beatle George Harrison is stabbed several times by an intruder in his home.  The intruder is subdued by Harrison's wife before police arrive.  Michael Anram is charged with attempted murder.

December 3: NASA loses contact with the Mars Polar Lander.

December 29: Actor Clayton Moore best known for his role as the Lone Ranger passes away.

December 31: Boris Yeltsin resigns as President of Russia.  He will be replaced by Vladimir Putin
