The Dallas Cowboys defeat the Buffalo Bills 52 to 17 in Super Bowl

14: Nascar racing driver Dale Jarrett wins the 1993 Daytona 500.
February 26: Six people are killed at the World Trade
Center in New York City when a bomb in a van explodes in a parking
garage.
February 28: The
Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas is raided by agents of the
Bureaus of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. The raid was intended
to
arrest Branch Davidian leader David Koresh on firearm charges. In the
botched raid 5 Davidians and 4 BATF agents die. It leads to a 51
day
standoff.
March
29: The movie "Unforgiven" produced by Clint Eastwood wins the
oscar for best picture
at the Academy Awards.
April
1: Nascar racing driver
and 1992 Winston Cup Champion Alan Kulwicki is killed in a plane crash
near Blountville, Tennessee.
April 19: The
siege of the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas comes to a
close.
A fire breaks out in the compound as FBI and BATF agents began moving
into the compound. The fire consumes the compound and seventy-six
Davidians are killed including twenty-seven children and leader David
Koresh.
May 1:

May 30: Racing
driver Emerson Fittapaldi
wins the 77th running of the
Indianapolis
500.
June 9:
The Los Angelus Police Department raids the home of Hollywood Madam
Heidi Fleiss.
June 9:
The Montreal Canadians defeat the Los Angelus Kings in game 5 to win
the series 4 games to 1 and capture the Stanley Cup.
June 13: Original Seven Astronaut Deke Slayton
passes away at the age of 69. He died from complications with a
brain tumor.
June 19: A memorial service is held
for Original Seven Astronaut Deke Slayton at the Teague Auditorium in
Building 2 at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. I
attended this memorial service with my stepson Toby and some

June 19: President Clinton announces his "Don't
ask, don't tell" policy about gays in the military.
June 20: Michael Jordan and the
Chicago Bulls defeat the Phoenix Suns in game 6 to win the series 4
games to 2 and claim the 1993 NBA
Championship.
June 23: Lorena Bobbitt cuts off the penis of her
husband John Bobbitt in Manassas, Virginia.
June 27:
In response to an assassination plot on former President George H. W.
Bush, United States President Bill Clinton order a cruise missile
attack on the building which houses the Iraqi intelligence headquarters
in Baghdad.
July 16: A Gala celebration for
Spaceweek 93 is held at Space Center Houston. I attended this

July 16: We met Flight Director
Milt Heflin at the Outpost Tavern near JSC. For a description

August 21: NASA loses contact with the Mars Observer
probe. This was three days before it was supposed to enter the
orbit of Mars.
August 30:
"The Late Night Show with David Letterman" premiers on CBS television.
September 13:
Israeli Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin shakes hands with PLO leader Yasser
Arafat in Washington, DC after signing a peace agreement.
September 29: An earthquake in India kills nearly
10,000 people.
October 5:
Russian military and security forces clear the Russian parliament
building by force ending a mass uprising against President Boris
Yeltsin.
October 23: The Toronto Blue jays
defeat the Philadelphia Phillies in game 6 to win the 1993 World Series
4 games to 2.
October 25:
The Spaceweek organization hosts a "Shoot For The Moon" celebrity golf
tournament to raise funds for the organization. I was teamed with
Astronaut Don Williams and former head of KSC security Charles Buckley

December 2:
NASA launches space shuttle Endeavour on mission STS-61. The goal
of
this mission is to fix an optical defect on the Hubble Space
Telescope. The crew of this mission is Dick Covey, Ken Bowersox,
Story
Musgrave, Jeff Hoffman, Kathy Thornton, and Tom Akers.
December 13:
Space shuttle Endeavour lands on runway 33 at the Kennedy Space Center
to complete its successful STS-61 Hubble repair mission. Mission
duration was 10 days 19 hours 58 minutes, 37 seconds
.
October 25: A 25th anniversary gala
for Apollo 8 was held at Space Center Houston. For my account of
