January 30: Space shuttle Discovery lands after
completing
mission STS-42.
February 17: Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer is

March 17: Russia launches Soyuz TM-14 with
crew
Aleksandr
Viktorenko, Aleksandr Kaleri, and Klaus-Deitrich Flade. This is
the first
manned Soyuz launch after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
March 24: NASA launches space shuttle Atlantis on
mission
STS-45.
March 25: Soyuz spacecraft TM-13 returns to Earth
with
crew, Aleksandr
Volkov, Sergey Krikalev, and Klaus-Deitrich Flade. Krikalev has
been in
space for 10 months spanning the collapse of the Soviet Union. He
left
Earth as a citizen of the Soviet Union and returned to Earth as a
citizen of
Russia.
April 2: Space shuttle Atlantis returns to Earth
after the
completion of
mission STS-45.
May 1: Oakland Athletics baseball player Ricky
Henderson
steals his
1000th base.
May 7: NASA launches space shuttle Endeavour on
mission
STS-49.
This is the maiden voyage for Endeavour.
May 25: The Doug Sanders Celebrity
Pro-Am Golf Tournament was held in Houston, Texas. Neil Armstrong

May 16: Space shuttle Endeavour
lands after the completion

STS-49.
May 22: Johnny Carson hosts the "Tonight Show" for

last
time. His career on that show spanned 30 years.
June 25: NASA launches space shuttle Columbia on mission
